Dozens of national racers in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia began to try the Mandalika Circuit Track, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“The racers have started trying the Mandalika circuit, because the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia event series on December 8-10, 2023 has started from yesterday,” said the committee of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia event in Mandalika, Thursday.

    He said the vehicle that will be used in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia 2023 is the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia will be held three times on December 8-10, 2023, January 12-14, 2024, and January 26-28, 2024.

    The race will consist of a Sprint Race for 30 minutes and an Endurance Race with a duration of 45 minutes. A total of 10 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars have been prepared at the Mandalika Circuit and are ready to compete quickly for the first round of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia.

    “The contract for this racing event is until 2026, but it can still continue if this event is successfully held in Mandalika,” he said.

    “This event can support the promotion of Tourism Development in Mandalika SEZ and Mandalika circuit,” he said.

    This activity is expected to also have an economic impact on the community and provide opportunities for Indonesian drivers to be able to improve their abilities, so that they are able to compete in other international car racing events.

    “Our drivers do not need to go abroad if they want to race, because we already have a racing league and can be held at the Mandalika circuit,” he said.

    Meanwhile, the Board of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Ananda Nikola said that the existence of this car racing event could make the Mandalika circuit multifunctional, not just MotoGP races, but could present other car racing events.

    “This can make the Mandalika circuit multifunctional,” he said.

    He said this car racing event could become history because it was the first time a car racing event was equivalent to racing in Europe and Australia.

    “This is a good breakthrough and can provide opportunities for national drivers to be able to race at the international level,” he said.

    Deputy Minister of BUMN II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo revealed plans to hold a GT car race at the Mandalika circuit after obtaining certification from the International Automotive Federation or Fédération Internationale de l’automobile (FIA).

    “Regarding (certification) FIA, later the plan will be a GT car race,” said Kartika Wirjoatmodjo or familiarly called Tiko in Jakarta, Tuesday.
    Tiko added that the possibility of GT car racing at the Mandalika Circuit will be cooperated with the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI).

    In addition, the Mandalika Circuit is also planned to hold a MotoGP race next year.
